Math mode #23

I've been reading about various math modes in TeX and many people assert that \[ ..... \] is preferable to $$ ..... $$. What do you guys think?

Also I've seen \( .....\) for inline math instead of $ .....$.

Is there any difference between the outcomes because if not then I don't think it matters. EDIT: From a small test I did they seem exactly the same

Apparently backend stuff is slightly different and padding is different for the not inline math. People seems to suggest it's better practise to use the / commands instead of the $

ah okay that makes sense. I'll use that from now on. Maybe one day Ed will look at these
