Team Beta recently build era5cli, a tool to download ERA5 data from the Copernicus Climate Data Store.
This tool is already being used by Team Beta and some of their project partners, and could in the future be used by more eScience projects. Also, I am sure there are many lessons learned on how the tool was build, which other projects can learn about.
