5 months ago When I started working here in 2019, the highlights of my onboarding consisted of:
- Studying the eScience guide. I found it quite good, although perhaps it is outdated by now.
- Learning from the closest lead engineer (@jhidding, in my case). Mostly via pair programming.
- Participating in the Advent of Code (seriously, this was a great learning tool).
Experiences (good, maybe also bad?) with onboarding.
This idea came from talking to people like @luisaforozco who said how great the reusabilithon was as one of her first eScience experiences and @Cmurilochem who was mentioning how helpful pair programming was to him in his first days. I would love to hear more stories like this and hear about how others experienced their first months and what really helped them grow into their roles (or what prevented them).
