Collect Past Papers for Engagement Research

Was assigned to figure out how to increase engagement with faculty through emails. We have new data on how many people interact with our emails so would be an important topic to do more research on. We are currently at 18-30% and want to increase.

I explained that 18% was actually quite high for something like this but that there is always room for improvement. So looking forward to starting a research paper about this.

• This paper discusses the differences between personalized emails vs. university emails amongst students
• However, this paper was the differences between using peoples preferred personal emails versus the gmail that universities set up
• For students at least, sending emails to their personal emails increased the participation rate, the success rate, completion rate, and satisfaction rate

• I do not have access to the entire paper but they recommend:
  • generalizing the subject line, including portable incentives, and considering organizational origination

• This paper looks mostly at student engagement in a certain course
• Assigned either 30 characters, and the remaining subject lines were longer and varied from 37 to 81 characters
• Found that there was actually no statistically significant difference between subject lines but there were on average higher for shorter lines

• I got pulled through a student assessment rabbit hole ha!
• This study found that there was moderate but not statistically significant impact on getting students to start assignments early
• So reminder emails should probably be avoided
