Are attributes with free text values supported?

The answer, for now, is of course "no", although annotator notes can be used to hack around this for some extent.

under the hood, we already have support for something close to this in the form of typed notes (comments). Although we only use the type "AnnotatorNotes" at the moment, the server can process any other type also and the client already supports display of multiple note types in the info popups. Mostly what's lacking is UI support for editing and some tweaks to protocol and server to extend this from a single "notes" type.
