I was having this problem earlier today on my gentoo box, working now. It must
have
been on AOL's end

Still having it here even with abenjami's suggestion. Shouldn't priority be
higher
as this renders naim useless for the majority of users?

Is there a way to auth. and jump? If you /connect username login.oscar.aol.com
you
can type in a pass, with toc.oscar.aol.com nothing, is there a way to auth.
and jump
to a valid port on toc.oscar.aol.com?

it seems that you need to re-enter the server. try /server toc.n.ml.org
Original comment by carlosqu...@gmail.com

connecting to toc.n.ml.org (which is the default server) works for me. This
looks to
have been temporary AOL outage. Unless anybody else is still having problems,
this
ticket should probably be closed (and will be done so unless there are more
reports
of issues).

Be advised, of course, that "Latest on Gentoo Linux" means nothing; you
need to give an actual version number.

mbmarlowe, please let us know what version of naim you are running. it looks
like
you are running an out-of-date version.

Please paste naim --version

I am seeing the same behavior as mbmarlowe is experiencing: I try to connect
and it
asks for a password. When I type my password and hit enter, nothing happens.
I've
tried both aol's and ml.org's. I am using Naim version 0.11.7.2 on Gentoo
Linux on
the ppc architecture, and I installed it through the Gentoo ebuild. Thanks!

You must upgrade to at least 0.11.8. No versions older than 0.11.8 will connect
to
AIM. 0.11.8.2.1 is the current release.

Using naim 0.11.8.2.1, I am unable to log in.
It starts up fine:
[09:49:03] *** A new connection of type TOC2 has been created.
[09:49:03] *** Ins and Del will switch between connections, and /jump (^N, M-n,
F8)
will jump across connections if there are no active windows in the
current one.
[09:49:03] *** You can now /connect
[<server>] to log on.
[09:49:03] *** Added naim help (Dan Reed) [naim author] to your permanent buddy
list.
[09:49:03] *** [READPROFILE] Can't read /home/dave/.naimprofile: No such file or
directory.
But then these commands:
- connect "username"
- connect "username" toc.n.ml.org
- connect "username" toc.oscar.aol.com:9898
... all stall out with:
Unable to connect to TOC2: Connection failed, connection timed out.
Gaim logs in fine from the same machine.
I wish there was a verbose mode or a log, so I could tell what's going on.

[7:27:28pm][hw@atari ~] naim -V
naim 0.11.8.2.1
running FreeBSD atari.vinylgruve.com 6.1-RELEASE-p6 i386.
Having the same issues. Either on successful connection it immediately
disconnects
with no error, OR times out.

It is impossible to solve these issues on this tracker.
After making sure that you're running the latest version (which is currently
0.11.8.2.1), join #naim on EFnet and wait around for some help.
Consider this issue closed.
