S-9.1.1 Review (Nov 1, 2020 Draft) #37

The document heading and footers have the date Nov 1, 2020 while the Document History lists a date of Oct 28, 2020. These cannot both be correct.

Line 9 - missing period at end of sentence. Line 34 - I do not believe that TN-9.1.1 exists anymore, we should remove the reference. line 65 - Please strike from the document: ", but may not reuse any of the colors in Table 3.1 below". There are a number of decoders already in the market that do not meet this requirement. Consider changing it to a non-binding recommendation.

Table 3.1 Where are the previous table numbers? Should this be labeled "Table 1"? Don't forget to update any inline references.

Consider consistently listing either "brown" or "violet" first (I have no preference) for both speaker +/- and output 4. I think by listing them both in the same order, it is easier for the casual reader to pick up that they are the same, which is an important thing to recognize.

Where do the color recommendations come from for outputs 5 and up? It looks like only a single manufacturer uses these colors, and that every single other manufacturer is already using other colors. This looks like an NMRA endorsement for a single manufacturer's choices at the expense of other manufacturers, and violates important NMRA principals of impartiality. Please remove these color recommendations.

What does White/Green, etc... mean? Is it white with green stripe, green with white stripe, white or green? Please be specific.

Black/White - same comment as above regarding meaning. This should be either removed from the standard or marked optional. It renders existing product conventions used by multiple other manufacturers non-compliant. Colors commonly in use today for "Common" or "Ground" include:

Page 3, Footnote 1 - I find the text of this footnote to be confusing. Is this footnote necessary? Can it simply be removed?
