We'd like to include some statistics on survey effort over the years within the manuscript.

Possible stats and ideas from @PeterBoveng-NOAA :

of flights with survey counts
of hours of those flights
of individual survey observers (and names, for consideration of authorship/acknowledgement)

Most of this information should be readily available with some database queries.
