What's the preferred Sphero module? http://npmsearch.com/?q=sphero
Oh man, now I'm so tempted to buy a Sphero.
So the plan for this meetup is to get a bunch of Spheros and do cool stuff with em? :+1:
Has anyone got one working successfully with a mac recently? I couldn't and someone else on twitter struggled too, no trouble with Linux though.
@cesarandreu Exactly!
@andrew Going to be working on the one we have over the next few weeks.
@andrew @dshaw - It looked at the libs and chose https://github.com/mick/node-sphero, but I couldn't connect on OSX. After some Googling, I found it was some problem that was fixed in Node 0.8 but present in 0.9 and 0.10. I got stuck there and punted.
A recommendation for avoiding crazy issues is to copy/borrow Artoo.io and use socat to convert the bluetooth stream into a socket stream. https://github.com/hybridgroup/artoo/blob/master/lib/artoo/commands/connect.rb#L46
Just a thought to get you over the annoying bluetooth crap.

Thanks, @voodootikigod. I'll give that a try.
I should have some loaner Sphero's in about a week if anyone else wants to hack on one and isn't ready to go all in like @cesarandreu.
The spheron module is great. Got it working. https://github.com/alchemycs/spheron
Going to pick up a Leap for the event too. https://github.com/alchemycs/spheron-leap
After hacking this weekend Spheron seems to be the most reliable module. node-sphero requires an old version of node-serialport that wont compile against 0.10.x (at least on Linux). Although cloning and updating did get it to work.
@andrew I am working with Linux as well and took a couple of extra steps to get going. Namely I have to set up my bluetooth device using rfcomm bind/connect. Feel free to get in touch with me if you need some extra help getting started.
@dshaw Can I step up to demo/talk about my NKO experience?
@morganrallen Fo sho!
I'd like to get together with @morganrallen @nexxy @jacobgroundwater and talk about how to lay out this session. Maybe a Google Hangout together on Thursday?
If @othiym23 can get us greenlit on our new location, I also want to see if we can setup a water course!
Thursday looks fine for me.

Due to a slight scheduling conflict, I pulled the short straw on walking/feeding the dogs tomorrow evening... Would it be more useful for me to help with setup or cleanup? I'm happy to do either; I just can't do both, unfortunately :-(
Can't wait to see what everyone's been up to with the spheros!!
Thanks, @rockbot. I have plenty of help with setup, so let's go with cleanup.
Sounds great! I'll be in around 7-ish then :-) Thanks!!
@dshaw do you still have spheros available?
@parshap There will be a bunch during the meetup tomorrow. Unless you're willing to come to the Dogpatch today and promise to have it at the meetup by 5:30 tomorrow, then it's probably not going to happen.
@dshaw I happen to be close by and would love to hack on one tonight before the meetup. I'll definitely be there at 5:30 tomorrow so if it's not inconvenient for you I'd love to swing by.
@parshap Shoot me an email at dshaw@thenodefirm.com then. We can meet at Piccino Cafe for a coffee later today. Preferably before 5pm.
I've been putting together some documentation for setting up and controlling the Sphero. This has been compiled from the information in this thread, the Lanyrd page, and my own experience. If anyone has anything to add that'd be great! I think some information for pairing/connecting from Linux would be especially great (/cc @morganrallen)!
So bummed - sickness at home so I can't make it tonight (not the kids either ;().
@parshap Thanks for the guide!
