Quantifying your Fitness #21

Fitbit, MyFitnessPal, and Withings work together to create a health tracking system. The Fitbit API is used to store and retrieve data, and that data is used to create analytics and history on the Fitbit API website. This uses existing integrations between the systems.

More importantly, though, I've created a system, available on Github, which allows me to create triggers in the world around me. It will nagging notes via SMS using Twilio, change the colors of a Philips hue lightbulb based on progress for the day, and interact with any other API-driven service. Examples of all of these will be given.

For the example given, I will be tracking:

Exercise – at least 10,000 steps or the equivalent Protein – at least 80 grams per day The system is a prototype, but using this you could track any kind of target and get both positive (lightbulb) and negative (SMS) feedback throughout your day to help keep you on track.
