This is part 2 of 2 to resolve the excitement detailed in https://github.com/nodemcu/nodemcu-firmware/pull/3378#issuecomment-770316856 . xref #3393

This looks like it's doing a whole lot more than it is: in git's model of the world, this merge brings a number of commits "into" dev despite not changing anything (as can be seen from "Files changed (0)").
