Because we switched to Vite 5 which expects ECMA modules, we set package.json's type field to module,
which further impacts treatment of .js files in the project folder.
This commit will:
rename some .js files to either .cjs to explicitly expect treatment as CommonJS code, or to .mjs to explicitly expect treamtent as ECMA compliant code
