Nodeschool Melbourne #3 #4

Open yoshuawuyts opened 9 years ago

yoshuawuyts commented 9 years ago

I'll be moving to Melbourne soonish and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in organizing another edition of Nodeschool! I've previously helped organize events for the amsterdam chapter and would be happy to help out as a mentor in Melbourne.

Since I'm completely new to Melbourne it might be best if someone else took the lead organizing the event, leave a comment if you're interested in helping out / taking the lead.

Also suggestions for a venue / sponsors for pizza are much appreciated!

Cheers! ✨

Hey @yoshuawuyts !

I'm keen to help, though we had pretty low attendance in past couple of events Feel free to visit one of node.js meetups and we'll discuss Melbourne nodeschool event

@yoshuawuyts I would be happy to help with venue and food sponsorship for the day. The space I have available, in the CBD, has access to fibre internet, a beautiful ballroom and plenty of space, chairs and tables for new and experienced developers to come and hang, learn, and code :)

also available to help with mentoring, promotion and any promotion design needed!

@louiscntr dude, that's awesome! I'll be in Melbourne 03/08 - 05/08, we could organize something on the Monday or Tuesday? Else it'll be a bit before I'm in Melbourne again.

@sidorares @SomeoneWeird What do you think; would that work for you guys?

sidorares commented 9 years ago

You mean next week? Happy to catch up with you, but definitely too early for nodeschool event - we are targeting people who are very new to technology, I think we need to allow at least one month time from announcement

SomeoneWeird commented 9 years ago

Yeah I think that's a little too early, we're also probably better off scheduling something for a weekend sometime - some people can't get time off work easily.

ghost commented 9 years ago

agreed! a weekend would be better, same reason why nodebots was on a saturday :)

@yoshuawuyts as you know I'll be up in Sydney this week so maybe we should chat further about Nodeschool then. I'd love to pick your brain as to how things were run at the Amsterdam chapter, then we can both report back here for further action :)

yoshuawuyts commented 9 years ago

Yup, that seems fair. Guess I was a bit inspired after reading the nodeschool Taiwan story haha (60 attendees with 24h notice). I had in mind of doing the event sometime during the week in the evening; kind of like a regular meetup. In the past I've helped organize events of different length; I've found the shorter ones to be more enjoyable.

I'm not sure when I'll be around in Melbourne again after next week; feel free to set things in motion without me! 😁

yoshuawuyts commented 9 years ago

@louiscntr sounds good, I'd be happy to meet up!

@SomeoneWeird @louiscntr @sidorares @orodio how about we give this another go; first week of April perhaps? We'd need:

I'm usually a fan of doing this after hours, but other options are possible too.

Cheers! :sparkles:

Hey! I'm happy to mentor, not sure how much time I can allocate for organising though

SomeoneWeird commented 8 years ago

Down for this.

I actually have no idea what nodeschool is. Keen to help out though. :+1: @yoshuawuyts @SomeoneWeird @louiscntr @sidorares

Yep. Let's do it.

Step 1: Venue.
