I see no problem with that. NodeSchool is helping people to code with (within other things) is a valuable business skill. Highlighting this by telling other people that "there are jobs out there, you know" is imho. a motivating factor. Someone that only comes to get a job is unlikely to show up at a "self-study" event...
ping @nodeschool/owners what do you think?
There's no need to suggest even indirectly that attendees will be "offered" a job.
Nodeschool Wrocław is sponsored by Foo Inc., who is currently seeking skilled javascript developers. Foo Inc. recruiters will be at the event, so if you're a skilled javascript dev, be sure to talk to them!
Or
Several sponsors will have recruiters at the event looking for skilled devs. Check out the sponsor displays to learn about who's hiring!
Just don't say anyone will be "offered" a job as this is probably an impossible-to-keep promise & may give people the wrong idea about the nature of the event.
NodeSchool Paris runs with 1-2 sponsors (besides my own company), one of which is a recruitment agency specializing in web jobs, including numerous Node jobs. They sponsor many Node/JS-related meetups in Paris.
They are listed in our communication and get a 2-3' speaking slot around lunch to quickly pitch how they work and pimp an offer or two, then remain around during lunchtime for chatting, etc.
This model works very well for most meetups and code-related events here in Paris.

@Sequoia I think it is the other way around: if someone seeks nodejs interns or developers its not a problem to go there it doesn't mean that "there will be always jobs". And that is not the promise that we give. But hiding that information sounds like we want to prevent them getting a job?!
Totally. I just meant "if you're concerned people are going to expect a job offer when they come phrase it clearly that there are recruiters present & that's enough." Personally I wouldn't be concerned about people expecting job offers at a workshop, where I live it would be ridiculous to expect that, but I don't know the cultural context where @grabbou's lives so I'm just going off his concerns as stated.
@grabbou I think your judgement is as good as anyone's here-- I say don't worry about it & do whatever you think is best! :smile_cat:
As long as everybody what to expect then I see no problem in having sponsors who are looking for talented employees. Also I like how @Sequoia phrased it
I just made a jobs repo: https://github.com/nodeschool/jobs
It's an experimental idea, but lets see if it takes off!
I added it to the awesome-remote-job list. If we spread it around on similar board listings, it will probably get more traction.
Hey,
What you generally think about that idea? I've recently spoken to few companies in Wrocław and they were quite interested in sponsoring the event, place and generally catering stuff.
They suggested that we might announce that there will be some open positions for most clever and dedicated into workshops students. Actually I am only afraid that this might prevent the rest of the group from taking further lessons and attempts if they won't be offered a job the first workshop, but several other JS groups did try to do similar thing and as far as I know, it was quite successful.
