This sounds great! I'm happy to get javascripting ready for this and may be able to organize a Seattle event.
Hah! The past few days I've had my sights set on a workshopper I feel can use some love. I'm sure I'll have fun touching it up and would happily contribute to more of them. I owe the workshoppers a great deal and have seen their positive effect when recently mentoring at NodeSchool Amsterdam. I also feel many of them are a little out of date. In short: International Contribution Day would be freaking awesome 🎉 🎉 !
I love this idea. Can't wait to help!
Sounds good to me, @hackygolucky! Is organization for this endeavor largely going to be in this repository? I want to make sure that this is easy to delegate and have us all pick up, so that you're not stuck doing all of the work. We can talk about this in the initial meeting. \o/
Let's have a meeting. Some time next week?
@RichardLitt Let's :)
This sounds like a great idea. Very excited! Let us know whatever help you need 🙌
Count me in! Excited to help!
\o/ count me in!
What's the plan to locking the date?
In Montreal, we've hosted NodeSchool on weeknights only, never during weekends. Though, we could try a 8h+ hack over the weekend too.
Wednesday, Tuesday, or Thursday (in this order) seems to work best for the Montreal crowd.
Weekend would work here as well. On Mon, Mar 13, 2017 at 03:28 Paul Cuciureanu notifications@github.com wrote:

Sigh, I def didn't see your excellent response @RichardLitt until now but YES all organization should happen here in the repo to keep things less confusing. I imagine there will probably be some cross-posting to the workshopper org for possible to-dos or even just offering help for it, but again once central place is usually helpful with this many cooks 😄
As a next step, I think it'd be great to set up a meeting on Hangouts(or wherever y'all like) to do an online together(notes will be taken and posted in the repo). Can y'all raise hands if you'd like to be included and also provide the timezone you're most likely going to be in....

@hackygolucky can you send NodeJS swag to Montreal?
How about early June for the global coordinated contributors' day sync-up?
Let's see if this works for folks. Indicate your availability here please!
Thanks @hackygolucky! Added my times. Adding this comment to get more eyes on this again, hopefully. Only 5 people have signed up so far.
I've set this meeting for May 17 at 1pm EST. Anyone who'd spoken up in here, I added you to the calendar invite. Please let me know if you didn't get it.
If you would like to get added to the call and invite, just @ me!

Cannot call in at the moment, but just wanted to add a thought...
I love the idea, but...
We in Baltimore have a really hard time getting repeat visitors to NodeSchool, and thus I cannot see something like this working at our usual scale. Smaller scale of 5 to 10 maybe, but at those numbers it is less worth the effort for organizing.
Thanks for hosting todays call @hackygolucky +1
Thank you for hosting this! I apologize I wasn't able to come; medical emergency on a hiking trip completely interrupted my plans yesterday (I'm fine). Are there meeting notes?
@RichardLitt we took notes! link posted above with update description!

META PLANNING DOC 2017
Please note that individual tasks for this event will exist as individual issues filed. We will track them here as to-do's to check off. Please add them if you see one missing!
NodeSchool is so important to the history(and future) of Node.js, so I've been chatting with some organizers and wanted to get everyone's take. The idea:
This would be in interesting hybrid event. It has the power to teach some people how to contribute in a way they may not have yet, but also encourages a day of focusing on giving back to NodeSchool. The workshoppers are such an incredible contribution to Node.js that so many worldwide events are dependent on. We want to help ensure future health, if possible. Get some more energy into it.
The plan for Merge Into NodeSchool: International Contribution Day
To make this welcoming to everyone, those who are newer(maybe attended NodeSchool and have never mentored but want to help) can pair with someone more knowledgeable so they are able to contribute. Everyone learns! Everyone helps! @jpwesselink inspired this one for sure after I'd mentioned I had concern that this would not be exciting to folks who don't mentor or aren't as experienced developers.
We've gotten a little allocation from the Node.js Foundation for
Next step would be to plan a meeting or workshopper folks and active NodeSchool organizers to iron this out a bit.
What do y'all think?
UPDATE 5/26
A meeting of available(more were interested but !time!) organizers occurred. Notes are here. Tasks are being created as issues. Please feel free to jump in! The most pressing task is finding a date in the Fall that works for most folks around the globe.
