X-Plane has not only Global Default Mesh but also Global Demo Areas e.g. for Hawai. Currently MUXP does not check for meshes in that Demo areas so they can not be directly adapted.
Workaround for the moment would be to copy Demo Areas dsf file to Custom Scenery.
