(David) If I search for a term which does not correspond to any card-name in the database, there is not a “No records found” message. This is true whether or not the card database is empty or not.

(Andrew) This should really distinguish between a) card does not exist b) no card instance in my area.

Yes, we will add a "no result of this search" text when no result found.

I do not see how we could say that the card does not exist... as people are free to enter any free text for any item in their collection. So we cannot know if "Card does not exist" So the only output we can give is "No result of this search in your area" type.
