I have the same problem. I looked at the supersu site and it seems that the flashable .zips have broken links.

I found the supersu....zip hosted elsewhere and hoped it would find it in my downloads folder. But didnt help. At least I missed something and it didnt work.

I was able to resolve this issue by manually downloading the zip file from this url (the one the script tries to download): https://download.chainfire.eu/1122/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.82-SR3-20170813133244.zip?retrieve_file=1

(Note that when the script tried to download it, it failed for me the first time (getting a corrupted data stream), so if you go this manual route and want to be sure it's correct, it might be worth downloading it two or three times and confirming the file size is identical.)

I then extracted the contents and placed them into the Downloads folder. (Directly, so "Downloads/common" and "Downloads/x86" for me, as indicated within script; if your device uses the arm architecture instead of x86, copy the armv7 folder instead. It should also be fine to just copy all three, I believe, as I think it only uses whatever variant is applicable.)

That said, I'm getting some errors at later steps in the process (on Chrome 73, with Asus C302), so I can't guarantee the entire process will work if you complete the manual placement above. (will post issue about my other problem soon -- EDIT: See issue #25.)

I've been rooting my Chromebooks now for 6 months or so and have used the combined script each and every time. I have also never let it download SuperSU as it has never worked for me, so I have always manually downloaded and extracted Super SU into the Downloads folder.

You should be using the SR5 release instead of the SR3 release:

https://download.chainfire.eu/1220/SuperSU/SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip?retrieve_file=1

I have never had a problem with that version and always had a successful rooting procedure.

And for those unsure which folders should be put into the Downloads folder depending on their architecture, well, simply move everything you already have in the Downloads folder to a temporary folder, also located in your Downloads folder, and then simply extract the entire SuperSU zip into Downloads, then root your Chromebook and it will find the files necessary... finally, delete everything from the Downloads folder except the temporary folder you created and then just move the files from the temporary folder back into the root of Downloads.

And I hope all of us are already backing up our personal files to either an SD Card or Google Drive, as the Downloads folder is not meant for permanent storage, and Chrome OS will often delete files from the Downloads folder on a whim if it feels you are running out of space.
