The paperclip icon will also be the means by which you'll be able to add images, media, different kinds of files and so on to your chat. Do you think you'll have no need for any of them? Is it because the size of the icon that you find it disagreeable?
Right now it is only for excel documents, but that is because it is only the first file type we added. More will come very shortly :)
I doubt I'll personally use such features and I can't imagine that others would use them so often as to necessitate such prominence next to the chat input.
That said, if it doesn't change I'm sure I'll get used to it. Maybe the icon is just a little too large.
Hmm, OpenAI's ChatGPT interface has a paperclip icon in the same place for the same purpose and I think other frontier model providers have something similar? I can reduce the size of the icon further if I receive similar feedback. Until then I hope it doesn't distract you too much.
I don't mind the paperclip, but right now it may seem odd that a button that not many users will click on is prominently displayed, while some other, more common operations are hidden (reset chat/copy chat/redo last response).
Nevertheless, manyoso's rationale is solid, and I for one hope we'll get multimodal capabilities in the not too distant future.
I will never use the attachment feature and I find the paperclip icon ugly and intrusive. I don't think it needs to be so prominent.
Couldn't it be included with the "erase/copy/redo" buttons, or next to the "LocalDocs" button, more out of the way?
