[Suggestion]: blocks getting sucked up through a portal #1480

Description of feature request

random thing i had in mind example image (same thing with the end if the storm somehow digs down) i dont know how it would make sense but it is minecraft and it would be kinda creepy, if the overworld portal is consumed it would stop consuming blocks in the nether (probably should make it a config too since it may start lag maybe)

hmmmm

:jess:

great idea. 👍

This would be neat, along as block clusters going downward from the end dimension (the end is above the overworld, the nether is below, mojang confirmed this a while back)

well uhh image idk if that counts for the end aswell

plus, even if the end was above and the nether was below, the storm can't suck up bedrock and the end is probably out of its range of suction.

The storm actually doesn't have an up and down limit for block grabbing, it's only limited side-to-side based on the size of it.

I think i know how this could work-

The tractor beam locks onto the portal, and the portal starts to shake like a block cluster, and blocks on the other side of the portal start to get sucked into it(along with entities too) and then they come out of the portal, the nether portal should shake for about 5 seconds before breaking and being pulled into the storm

making the portal shaking like a cluster will just make it unusable and un-walk-through-able

BluePineappleGuy commented 1 year ago

this would require for the storm to scan for nearby portals, then find the coordinates in the nether it leads to, then create block clusters to go through the portal and into the storm, which crackers probably wont do since that would be very performance heavy

Instead of it making the entire portal a cluster, have a custom portal entity (like the bowels entrance) appear while the portal is shaking in the spot where the portal blocks are (this wouldnt work with large portals, but if there is a way to detect portal sizes it might be possible) and that would go to the coordinates of where the portal is located inside of the nether, and it would pull in block clusters and mobs from around the area before breaking the portal and ripping it out of the ground

There could be a way to summon an entity that can be targeted and grabbed by the storm that is summoned when a portal is opened (it would be invisible with no AI)

that could work, but it might cause a decent amount of mod compat issues.

this could also happen when the portal is sucked up with a block cluster which sometimes happens.

Cod1ngGamer commented 5 months ago

pretty sure this can already happen when using immersive portals, but im not sure
