Port for Firefox Theme #22

Any plans on making a port for Firefox?

arcticicestudio commented 7 years ago

This proposal can be mapped to the answer I've posted in #11 for a GTK+ port project, but in this case I would use the awesome Arc Firefox Theme as codebase. But there are problems regarding the announced introduction of the webExtensions API by Mozilla which will force all currently working add-ons to be almost totally rewritten. That's why I'd like to wait until the first official Firefox release version 57 (November 2017) to see if they implemented a way for add-ons to easily migrate or if every add-on must be rewritten. Should the second case occur I'd rather like to help to rewrite the Arc Firefox Theme and then build the Nord port project on top of it.

I'm not happy with the way Mozilla want to go including many other add-on creators where a lot of them will stop working on some awesome add-ons like Tab Groups who announced the end of the add-on development on his site.

Anyway, I've added it to the port project roadmap backlog issue #18, but I can not promise that this port project will be implemented in the near future 😞

Understood.

@arcticicestudio Firefox 57 is officially released, it would be great to get an update on this issue

Go for some stylish theme that is in the same area as Nord and edit it yourself. Not hard to do at all. I use this method every time I change colorthemes

edit: (you have the Nord color codes - just use those in the stylish theme and it will look like a Nord FF theme) solution 2 get nord colors as a YAML file and use base16-builder to build the Firefox theme for you. IIRC B16-buildr have templates for FF)

@b0o Sorry for the late reply, I'm currently too busy with my job and all the other port projects which are further up the TODO stack. But like @pjhalsli said it should be easy to use the Stylish addon. You can use other themes like Nocturnal and adjust the colors to Nord.

As soon as I've got some more time I'll read about their new theming API and see if it is possible to create a theme like Arc Firefox Theme or if it is only possible to style Firefox via userChrome.css

I just wanted to chime in and say that this would be possible with the current "Colors" testpilot FF is running. I'll look into doing this today.

I also mentioned this in #101 , but I made an unofficial Nord Theme for Firefox at https://github.com/dragonejt/nord-firefox , its also available on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nord-firefox/. The colors that I'm using are all Nord Colors, I'm just not sure if they fit the uses for the colors.
