Issue to keep track of what books/swag to give away for this meetup.

@bmf - Eloquent JavaScript, 2nd Edition and Linux Command Line from No Starch @stanzheng - When you request O'Reilly/Manning can you put that in this thread?

qwo commented 9 years ago

o'reilly is request,

manning is request, you can ask for it each one.

lynnaloo commented 9 years ago

That's a cryptic comment. Does that mean you requested them?

qwo commented 9 years ago

Yeah, so you can request any of these titles that are related here.

lynnaloo commented 9 years ago

Can you be in charge of picking these out and just post what you choose here?

qwo commented 9 years ago

i've never had anyone take me up on actually even if they had a choice. It is a "get a free ebook copy of any of the books on the list" not physical so its less appetizing.

i can pick something or introduce 1-2 interesting titles

tjwebb commented 9 years ago

I don't know why this is suddenly so complicated. I just spent 5 minutes trying to interpret @stanzheng's comments and nothing makes sense to me.

You've received physical books before, yes? You have the contacts at Manning and O'Reilly so we're relying on you to get these. If you'd rather someone else do this, email me the details needed for requesting the books.

qwo commented 9 years ago

Sorry, I was writing replies while distracted during a meetup.

I briefly outline both processes to get books from the publishers below, I was mentioning no one has claimed any manning press book in the past. After I collect their email (step2), no one yet has gone through the catalog and selected titles for me to request from the manning press rep.

I suggested, I could pick concretely 1-2 titles someone maybe interested in and then 'raffle' the evoucher to those two titles but overall they are valid for any manning press titles. Manning press does not send physical books.

How it works for Manning Press. ex,

O'Reilly

lynnaloo commented 9 years ago

OK, that makes more sense. I think it's best to choose two O'Reilly books and to choose two Manning books and raffle those off as four separate items. The reason I created this issue is so that once someone does that legwork, we need a place to keep track of the face that it was done and what books were ordered so it does not fall through the cracks.

lynnaloo commented 9 years ago

For this coming meetup, I'm going to plan to raffle two Manning ebooks. We'll have them message their information to you @stanzheng to claim the prize. Unless you don't want to be the Manning POC, in which case just tell Manning that the new POC is me or Travis.

bmf commented 9 years ago

The books from No Starch were not in the mail today. We'll be short our two No Starch books for the raffle this month, but on the up side, we'll have them for next month when they do finally show up. I ordered them on 1/5 thinking they'd be here by now. I'll make sure I give it more than 10 days to get here on the next go round (live and learn).

As a concession, I have Webbots, Spiders, and Screen Scrapers (No Starch) and Testable JavaScript (O'Reilly) that I will bring for the raffle. Both were wins from previous raffles and are in good shape, so it shouldn't be an issue.

lynnaloo commented 9 years ago

Maybe it might help to create a Google event for the day after each event to order the raffle stuff for the next events? We will have D&B Game cards next month as well.

bmf commented 9 years ago

I don't think a reminder is necessary, but it couldn't hurt. We'll just need to shift how we order. In the past No Starch got here pretty quick, but the last two orders seem to have taken some extra time to get here. I'll adjust to make sure it doesn't happen again.

bmf commented 9 years ago

Just to be clear, we have stuff to raffle, we just need to make adjustments in the ordering process. Talk to y'all about it tomorrow. :)
