The Nostr Electronic Badge

Description

A series of informational and internactive explanations follows the design release, in which questions are answered throughout the hour. Those prepared for on site work (with a portable computer and all other soft/hardware needed for development) will be guided to modifying the factory application or creating their own.

Discussion relating to new features or reimplementation of existing features is encouraged, to make the Nostr electronic badge as useful and appealing as possible to all ages and persuasions.

Depending on the level of sponsorship, we may have a number of Nostr electronic badges available for distribution.

Learning

You will learn about the development cycle of a modern consumer hardware product, and what challenges the Nostr electronic badge met during it's year long production history.

You may learn how to design the application logic running on a RISC-V microcontroller, like the one assembled on the Nostr electronic badge.

You may learn how to use embedded development tools like ESP-IDF, GCC-RISCV, and Platform-IDE, depending on the pace of the workshop and how many come prepared for development.

Preparation

You are encouraged to simply attend with no preparation, as most of the topics are rewarding for those simply curious about the basics of the Nostr electronic badge.

The more ambitious can arrive after learning how to write, compile, and program a hello world application for the ESP-C3 (RISC-V) MCU.

Presenter

Michael Schloh von Bennewitz (MSvB) is the founder of the Monero Hardware team and the chairman of Monero Devices. Together with a team of hardware hackers, he developed and produced the Nostr Electronic Badge.

Sponsors

If you are able to sponsor the production of the NOSTR Electronic Badge, please consider absorbing the costs so that each attendee at Nostriga receives one free of charge. Contact the presenter on Nostr or write to nostrigabadge@encambio.com Your software data (application, IDE, API docs, or other content) will be delivered on a high quality (SMI chip) branded (Nostr logo) dual (USB type-A and type-C) interface to each badge owner.

Organisers

If you hold the list of Nostriga attendees, please know that you may be able to use the Nostr Electronic Badge (assuming we achieve the goal of one free device per visitor) as access control similar to how Defcon (Las Vegas) does. The product comes with a high quality (chrome ornamented with leather decoration) lanyard.

Workshop Details

There may be a second and third copresenter invited to lead this workshop. These are the people responsible for the hardware workshops given at the Nostrasia events in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
