i'm failing to reproduce this. Which variation of the emulator do you use, and on what platform? I was jumping at GHZ "spawn point" for a while and could not notice any pitch variation.
Unrelated, but sample playback was broken for sms (fixing it was on todo list for 8+ years) and I pushed some code for that now, maybe it'll affect this problem too.
@notaz: I am using the RetroArch core. You can reproduce it by jumping repeatedly. You will notice the jump audio effect differs between jumps, while it's uniform on Genesis Plus GX (also RA core) and real hw. It's evident for me since I have played that game for years since I was a child, but maybe it's a bit too subtile for others.

I was VERY happy to see you are working on this awesome emulator again! So I will report a couple of problems I am still seeing, so it can be perfected. Like this one: Audio effect when jumping in Sonic 1 (Master System) sounds totally wrong: it's pitch varies strangely, even between jumps, with a strange effect. You can see the correct effect on Genesis Plus GX, for example, and real hardware.
