Closed Kueorn closed 3 years ago

Describe the bug It's impossible for me to install CorpusExplorer. I can launch the setup.ex and accept the Licence (screen 1), but after that, nothing happened (nothing is loading or something like this). A shortcut "CorpusExplorer v2.0" appear on my desktop (screen 2), but wenn I lauch it, it launch the installer window. Therefore, I don't have any security message from Windows (like in the tutorial video). (Thanks !)

I am also affected by this bug. I tried to install CorpusExplorer on two computers:

The problem is relatively trivial: The installation is blocked by your anti-virus program. Best solution: Please whitelist CorpusExplorer in your anti-virus program. Quick-and-dirty: You can temporarily disable your anti-virus program.

Hi, Thanks for your quick answer ! I tried to whitelist or to disable my anti-virus, but there’s Nothing to do : I have got the same issue… Geoffrey

There are two stumbling blocks with whitelisting.

  1. Maybe not all paths are whitelisted. The correct path is: %APPDATA%/CorpusExplorer/App
    • Enter the path as shown in the screenshot and press ENTER. 24-01-_2021_16-23-49
    • You will see that %APPDATA%/CorpusExplorer/App resolves to another (user-dependent path). For me, for example, C:\Users\notesjor\AppData\Roaming\CorpusExplorer\App\ - you need to whitelist this path completely (including subfolders).
  2. Remember that Windows Defender may also count as an anti-virus program and may need to be whitelisted.

If this does not help:

  1. Feel free to email me (https://notes.jan-oliver-ruediger.de/kontakt/) and we'll make an appointment. In this case I will look at the problem in person (remotely) and help you troubleshoot.
  2. Please download: ImageBuilder.zip. This contains a tool that assembles an app image (like the original installer). You can use this tool to
    • track down download/installation bugs (For example, you will be informed why and when an installation file was blocked.) and
    • build a runnable version for Windows, Linux, and macOS (Linux and macOS require a mono framework installed).
    • Usage: Unzip the file, start CorpusExplorer.Installer.ImageBuilder.exe, wait, then the application is located in the "CorpusExplorer" folder (next to the CorpusExplorer.Installer.ImageBuilder.exe file).

Before you try the tip from the answer before - please test first if it works now after all. I just fixed an error that occurs under certain (rare) configuration conditions.

Hi,

I tried yesterday morning the solution of the whitelisting of the path, also the whitelisting with Windows Defender but it doesn’t worked. I had to DL the ImageBuilder, which worked without problems ! I’ll try to install CE on another PC (which had also the same bug) from the website to try the fix you just published. Thank you very much for your support. Geoffrey

Dear Geoffrey, I'm happy to hear that. If there are any other questions/problems, feel free to contact me again. Attached is a new version (for others) of ImageBuilder - some mono versions have a problem with the original version (see above). I'm working on getting that tool 'productive' as soon as possible - also because the ImageBuilder improves the installation experience and Linux/Mac. ImageBuilder_v2.zip
