These rods partly disappear on OTF renderer W10

Where the font came from, and when

Does not matter, problem persists for a long time

Does not matter, problem persists for a long time

OS name and version

W10 22H2

Application name and version

Qt 6.1.3, probably all apps

Issue

Some rods disappear on pitches about 30…40px. What’s strange, I didn’t see disappearing strokes in other hieros.

Sounds like a hinting problem?

Mercury13 commented 1 year ago

Probably, but why and how?

Mercury13 commented 1 year ago

What I know: FontForge does small hinting while exporting font; when you disable this auto-hinting, it’s the same. It’d be cool to make PostScript hints (which are different from TTF bytecode) at least for these tricky characters. If I make rods 30+ units, OK now. PS properties do not influence. Did not find any reasonable vertex-level workarounds.

…And cubic PS renderer DOES some hinting, differently for horizontal and vertical strokes.
