I do not have this problem with the curly brackets (it might depends on your font settings), but I agree that a few characters could benefit of being more recognizable, like ~
which really looks too flat.
@madig is this issue still reproducible? and is this issue specific to code and the terminal? @marekjez86 what is the status of variable font?
Did a quick check and while I see the symbols fine, they could still be made a bit more prominent.

Issue
Various symbols used in code and on the command line look less prominent than they should. Curly braces look feeble even.
This includes
() [] {} <> ~ * + - / ' "
and `Screenshot
Compare Hack, which designs these symbols very prominently:
And Noto Mono (ignore the thin text in the terminal pane, something seems to fall over while selecting the bold instance):
