Syriac fonts should improve ligatures #2

According to Wikipedia article, Lāmaḏ+ʾĀlap̄ (ʾEsṭrangēlā and Maḏnḥāyā), Taw+ʾĀlap̄ (ʾEsṭrangēlā and Maḏnḥāyā), Hē+Yōḏ (Maḏnḥāyā only), Taw+Yōḏ (Maḏnḥāyā only) has ligatures within Syriac texts, but some of them were incorrect in Noto Sans Syriac Estrangela and Noto Sans Syriac Estrangela Eastern.

I checked both Estrangela and Madnhaya (Eastern) Noto fonts. Only Lamadh + Alaph shows a ligature. notosanssyriacligatures

No idea why this was assigned to me. Removing myself.

@simoncozens thanks for all the work you do maintaining this font 🙂

per https://fonts.google.com/analytics Noto Sans Syriac Eastern has about 2x the 30 day views of Noto Sans Syriac

is there any way we can prioritize these ligature improvements?

also i noticed that the taw ligatures never work on safari running on a macbook

simoncozens commented 3 months ago

I'd love to get it done. The problem is that adding new ligatures requires new drawing, which requires commissioning a designer, and I have a lot of priorities to balance right now. :-(

ledzeppelin commented 3 months ago

No worries Simon - thanks so much for the quick response

KrasnayaPloshchad commented 3 months ago

Some of them could be created by modifying existed glyphs.
