1. Feature Description
I would like Openhab to check the server, wether there is a new Version, for 
example at night and download and install it by itself.  Nice would be to 
select between snapshots and final releases.

Good idea. However, I'd pledge for
1. using the existant http binding and a rule to notify when the version changes
2. creating an OPTIONAL binding for this

The whole update story is not that easy to implement. Anyhow we have to tackle 
it sooner or later.
