I starred this, since I'm in favor of more customizeability, but customizeable
text color is my top wish, bar none.

on lighter colored wallpapers it is hard to read the notifications, so being
able to change the font color or background would be amazing.

Black text on white background would be great, especially to match the
GoogleNow widget. Thanks for your consideration.

A much better option would be to render a shadow, or an outline effect,
although a simple color selection should be nice to have too.
Something like this: http://imgur.com/9Bl994G

I agree. A shadow would be a much elegant option.

The shadow is much, much harder. I've begun work on a foreground color option
that will be home-screen only.

Changing the text colour from white to say black would be really useful.
Means I could use lighter coloured wallpapers and sill be able to see the text

Foreground color options will be white/black in 1.6. Each added color requires
more analog clock assets so I'm sticking to white/black for now.

"Each added color requires more analog clock assets". Maybe you can generate
only white assets and paint them programmatically using some filter like the
method setColorFilter from ImageView.
