Repair is too expensive for Warrior in Solo #195

It’s too expensive to repair all the higher-end equipment, and you aren’t given enough Gold to do so consistently. This leaves you little room to buy anything at all later in the game, which is really lame.

The repair formula should be made to ~1/3 of its current rate.

(based on this post)

Can confirm the game is difficult for me since I can't keep up with the repair cost, so I have to use basic gear.

Welp, I really want to say "git good". It is expensive, but manageable.

I'd think such changes are mostly out of scope for the main project, and is more in scope for potential modules. Now exposing the API to make such a module possible is a valid issue, but adjusting something in the base game? Don't think so.

@Evengard as I mentioned, we don't yet have a separate place to discuss mod/balance changes. I think these discussions are good to have and until we have a good place for it, I'm okay to host these discussions here.

As for making changes in the base game, indeed, we won't do that. But it's a good discussion for a mod. Also, maybe implementing #206 will help with managing equipment state.

Evengard commented 1 year ago

Well, I do think we should make that clear in the issue name and the first message, tbh. Each time a similar balancing issue is coming up I'm becoming jumpy xD

Simple solution: if you see a "Balance" or "Modding" label - ignore it. But I still think discussions are worth having it here.

In my Ultimate Nox Guide, I've made a shop guide which includes the base value of a Divine Staff, how much to BUY one, how much a pristine one would sell for at certain shops, and the cost to repair one with 1/120 durability for price comparison.

For those that can't pick up on the pattern, the repair rate is determined by their buying rates, and they can vary greatly. I bet the person that complained didn't know this and repaired and sold to the nearest shopkeeper, and ALSO spiked the prices in Galava by killing Daniel on sight. It is challenging, but that's the only thing to make being a Warrior challenging since his playstyle is the easiest among the 3 classes.

I don't think this needs changing personally.

If you struggle with money in Nox as a Warrior, I recommend the following:

  1. Do NOT sell to Peave in Dun Mir, anywhere at the Crossroads, or anywhere in Ix.
  2. Repair everything BEFORE talking to the Airship Captain at Ix, and do NOT repair at Peave.
  3. Fill your inventory with swords from the Field of Valor except for high valuables.
  4. Sell at the Urchin's Ear, NOT Loproc, and sell BEFORE rescuing the ladies.
  5. DO NOT SELL IN DUN MIR DURING THE UNDEAD RAID!!!!! (Sell as necessary if your Warrior friends die.)
  6. Repair in Dun Mir during the Undead raid BEFORE approaching Horrendous.
  7. Repair as necessary at Loproc in Galava.
  8. Repair at the Mystic in Ix.
  9. Refrain from selling, but if you must, do NOT sell at the Mystic.
  10. Repair and sell as much as you can at the Bog Shop before falling down the crumbling pit.
  11. Sell at Motoc, but repair at Loproc at the Land of the Dead.
