MS-Excel binary file format stream wrapper

Look into developing a stream wrapper for MS-Excel's binary format(s). Basically I want to be able to import not only XML-based excel files, but also Microsoft's proprietary binary format(s) as well. Export to these formats would be nice too but I'd be pretty happy just to be able to import them and export as xml-based excel files. Here are some resources I've found on the topic:
