Four badges in readme is ideal? #218

Just came across this commit on HyperApp which changes the amount of badges to four because it is the ideal number...

Is that true and if so isn't that a weird metric to determine the badges?

goto-bus-stop commented 6 years ago

yeah, i don't understand this metric at all—IMO most common badges don't give any useful information when viewing a package page. I'd be really interested to learn the reasons for this!

The number of badges have a very small contribution to the overall score. Four badges is indeed some arbitrary number and could be improved.

To hazard a guess, I imagine the thinking goes that badges are proxies for things like links to CI, code coverage, npm package URL, dependency status, etc, which cannot be readily inferred just by reading source code.

@goto-bus-stop As an aside, I have seen this and similar commits to other repositories which are done for the sole purpose of optimizing their "SEO", without any real benefit, such as, e.g., tuning the "ideal" number of badges.
