Is it because it's right at the break between season 2 and season 3?

That is why and depending on what resolution you're viewing it at there will be a sliver of a line. I'll try extending the line by DOT_WIDTH pixels to the left and see if it looks silly.

This still isn't obvious, but it's better than it was. If you look closely at the screenshot you'll see half the right half of the dot does have a line behind it. Now the whole dot will have line behind it.
