It looks like version 3.5.1 was not finished developing. I provided several pull requests get it to work: https://github.com/nseibert/ldap/pull/34, https://github.com/nseibert/ldap/pull/36, https://github.com/nseibert/ldap/pull/37, https://github.com/nseibert/ldap/pull/38.
To make it work under PHP 8.3 I provided an additional pull request: https://github.com/nseibert/ldap/pull/35
