You're absolutely right, there is a quite a bit of work required to get up and running. I'll work on putting together a nice guide for getting this setup.
In terms of binaries, we can certainly start posting jars once an alpha release is ready - however users would still need to setup spigot since we're not allowed to distribute those jars. The user guide will help reduce the friction here.
Also, since there has been quite a bit of interest I might spin up an official test/showcase server for those interesting.

I should add that this project is still very much a WIP as I only began development 3 days ago. I've been making good progress, but there really wont be anything worth testing out for at least a few more days.
