SHHS MOP 6-626-mop-rules-for-assigning-sleep-stages, Stage REM sleep, Start of stage REM, Periods of elevated sustained EMG, possible typo sentence as is does not make sense (this is how is was in the original MOP as well), “When EMG is elevated above the REM level for longer than .5 sec, then this portion of the record is scored as a Non-REM sleep or WAKE.” The “.5 sec” does not make sense, but if the EMG is elevated for over half the epoch (>15 sec) then the epoch is scored Non-REM or WAKE depending on the EEG. The correction could be “When EMG is elevated above the REM level for longer than 15 sec, then this portion of the record is scored as a Non-REM sleep or WAKE .” (change the decimal point to number 1) In the CHAT PSG scoring manual we changed the sentence to: “When EMG is elevated above the REM level, then this portion of the epoch is counted as a Non-REM sleep or WAKE.”
