update unit testing #2

-hpe() unit testing is unclear and possibly not stable -double check the hpb() unit tests

-updated hpe() unit testing to help the p argument not crash things -hpb() now also has tests that the relevant parameters are plausible for the supplied data -likely not the final update for unit testing / argument parsing
