Design the schema to the needs of your UI
Make your type names as specific as possible (like NewsArticles vs. just Articles). It's easier to evolve them + deprecate over time
Don't make your schema a 1:1 mapping of your REST API

Something that might be more fun to start with is creating a mutation like startSession, startNotebook or even just startKernel.
