Feature suggestion: Track number of plays for each item #4

I'm finding I frequently replay the same albums in Watershed. It'd be great if it knew how often I was playing them so I could find my favorites easily. This might also lend itself to a "shuffle" tool that mixes some of my favorite albums into my queue.

Since this is my first feature suggestion, I figure I should ask about your current intention: Is the object now to get the basic functionality really well polished and nailed? Are you considering expanding the tool at all yet?

So, the labels and sorting on Trello represent my rough sketch of priorities/triage with a casual eye towards releasability. for reference:

And I was thinking this morning that it's been a while since I did any real project planning, and that's part of the reason my updates have been slower and less focused.

Both of these things are to say that there isn't a strict plan at all. The loose plan is to get some reasonable level of polish on roughly the current set of features, release it more publicly, and only then think about further refinements. At this point I've put a fair bit of time into the project and I'm increasingly concerned about the return on that time, vis-a-vis my failure so far to land more paid work since I wrapped up my involvement on Hyperdeck, and my dim estimation of Watershed's potential to actually earn money. So I'd really like to reach a point where I can actually show this off, get feedback from a broader pool of potential users, etc. And anything that isn't strictly necessary for that agenda probably ought to live in the "maybe someday" column until then.

So: sometime between now and Sunday evening I will sit down with my Trello board and try to come up with a firmer roadmap for the coming (2-3?) months. And I'll think about trying to fit playcount into that plan.

That sounds good. I'd try to think about what data points you can collect on your side that could be valuable in the future. Plays– songs as well as albums –could be useful information to collect. User trends require that you consider these things in advance, so it may be worthwhile to think about how to collect that data.
