VM crashing on machine with multiple docker cgroup networks when pf_ring kernel module is installed. #318

Closed JulianCeaser closed 6 years ago

JulianCeaser commented 6 years ago

I installed the current pf_ring kernel module (pfring 7.1.0-1752) in a system having multiple docker containers which create multiple network cgroups. The VM quickly becomes unstable and starts rebooting and the containers also start crashes.

Here are some extracts from the vmcore-dmesg.txt (crash logs)

I am also attaching the entire log in case this doesn't help.

Please advise.

Only the kernel module is installed on the VM, the pfring-enhanced program is in another docker container. vmcore-dmesg.txt

Hello,

I compile and install a fresh PF_RING version and I get a crash, but the machine didn't freeze and boots OK. I enclose the log (syslog).

@jppo I pushed more debug messages in github, new packages will be available in 1h, please update and provide us the trace again. Sorry but hits looks like a weird issue, we need more info to figure out what's happening. Thank you.

Hello,

OK, I will install the last version and have a try. I will install it also on another machine (more recent coreI5).

@jppo new packages are available now (if you already updated, that was previous to my patch)

@jppo the messages that you see every 30 min are caused by containers getting created and removed, I will remove the debug messages once this issue has been fixed. As of the crash, I cannot explain it as everything seems to be correct, anyway I added more info, please update again (from github or wait the next packages). If we are not able to find the reason, I will change to code to use a different approach, but I want to understand what's going and fix buggy code if any. Thank you.

Hello,

I get today a new trace whith " remove_proc_entry: removing non-empty directory 'dev/lo', leaking at least 'info'". It was very shortly after I start the machine, so the log is very short.

Regards,

JP Pozzi

PS : it's always better to understand what goes wrong before changing too much code.

@jppo I still do not see the crash trace, it seems github is cutting your traces as they are too long, please try to enclose a text file or send a link to download it. Thank you.

jppo commented 6 years ago

Hello,

OK, I will try it tomorrow.

Hello, I get a kernel panic and a freeze after running load_driver.sh and then running pfcount on zc:eth1 (the ixgbe interface). I run it inside a VM. I use PF_RING-7.2 stable any thoughts ?

Thanks B

cardigliano commented 6 years ago

Hi @BilldePing, are you able to provide a trace of the panic? What is the exact pf_ring version (date/revision) you are running? Thank you.
