  1. SoP — CMU: Want 1-2 pages on purpose, background, clear objectives, but also commitment to community.
  2. SoP — UW: Want 600 words on why this program and goals.
  3. PHS — UW: Want 600 words on preparation, work experience, etc.
  4. SoP — Stanford: Want 1-2 pages on why this program, preparation, research, and goals.
  5. PHS — Stanford: Want 1-2 pages on unique experiences, proven values, and relevant activities.
  6. SoP — UCSD: Want any length on inspiration/motivation, preparation, goals, research interests, and why you're a match.

Short Answer

  1. UCSD + Leadership: 3-5 sentences on experiences around leadership (e.g., coordination of volunteer activities, board member in student organization, residential life, etc.).
  2. UCSD + Social Justice: 3-5 sentences on social justice (e.g., addressing a systemic inequality through education, organizing, activism, mentorship, counseling, outreach/access, survival and development work, event planning/coordination, community building and development, etc.).
  3. UCSD + Research: 3-5 sentences on research (e.g., undergraduate research, involvement in McNair or similar programs, independent or group study with a professor or other researcher, research outside of academia, full-time research after college, etc.).
  4. UCSD + Adversity: 3-5 sentences on overcoming adversity (e.g., overcoming educational, social, cultural, economic, barriers, or barriers related to accessibility, etc.).
  5. UCSD + Community: 3-5 sentences on community involvement (e.g., volunteer service, organizing, activism, teaching, mentoring, counseling, community art production, etc.).
