Rename "master" branch to "prerelease", and create "release" branch #44

Let's avoid culturally-loaded names and make our branch naming more accurately reflect what the branches are used for. This will also perhaps be a precursor to automating some tasks such as tests (which don't exist yet) and package releases.

Branched master to prerelease, set prerelease as default branch, updated outstanding PRs' base to prerelease, and added branch protection for prerelease. Will create release when we are ready to release the next version of the library with the current bundle of updates.

release branch has been created and v0.6.0 has been released.
