SCC-1A and SCC-1B Support? #33

Open OpenRift412 opened 2 months ago

OpenRift412 commented 2 months ago

So does the recent support of the SCC-1 ROMs also encompass the SCC-1A and SCC-1B variants? Or is that still yet to be done?

nukeykt commented 2 months ago

In theory: yes, in practice: who knows

zaphod77 commented 2 months ago

i just saw an scc-1a board, and it has the exact same three wave roms, at least according to the silkscreening on the chips.

and i haven't found a pic of a scc-1b at all. strange...

nukeykt commented 2 months ago

yea, only mcu roms are different from normal SCC-1

zaphod77 commented 2 months ago

then where's the extra mcu rom? i'm guessing that's the main thing that makes a mkII into a mkII?

nukeykt commented 2 months ago

IC10 and IC14 are different

do any of you - the people commenting here, owns SCC-1A card, especially broken/faulty one that you are willing to sacrifice? I wanted to contribute for adding SCC-1A support to the project, but the real hardware is required for that and the only SCC-1A card I found is on eBay with price of 4000 Euro?! So, at this point SCC-1A support is pending - indefinitely, maybe even never, if the card is that rare and expensive and no one wants to do what's necessary.

In case this is not clear to all of you: SCC-1 = soundset from SC-55 MK1 SCC-1A = soundset from SC-55 MK2 SCC-1B = same as 1A, but bundled with software

I had a SCC-1 (first generation) back in the day when it was released. But I realy don't see the point of emulation it now, when it is basically the same as SC-55MK1. Or the SCC-1A instead of the SC-55MK2.

the cards have no display, but more importantly, no battery. so the 1a being emulated will be a better working mkII for just playing back midis than the currently emulated one is.

if they are (exactly) the same, then the ROMs will be the same, but they are different. also, SCC-1/CM-300/CM-500 (all using the same ROMs, because CM is Computer-Module and they are essentially SCC-1 in External box) are proven not to be equal to other devices:

https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1110160#p1110160

which is a follow-up to this:

https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1092925#p1092925

and it seems it's all related to their "Capital Tone Fallback" behavior. also, the goal of this project is preservation and currently SCC-1A is not preserved, in fact as there is no dump, no one really knows what is different and/or the same with SCC-1A compared to any other SC-55 devices.
