How about a Dos version?

giulioz commented 5 months ago

You can likely change the UI and sound part enough to make it compile with DJGPP and build a DOS version. If you do that, though, there would be no way to run it with games at the same time, since DOS is not multitasking. Are you more interested in being able to use it for emulating DOS games with Dosbox or do you actually want to run it on an old machine?

Allanon41 commented 5 months ago

I'm interested in using it to emulate the sound for games using DosBox. Sorry if posting this in wrong place. Specifically I'm using DosBox-Pure which i think is forked off DosBox-X. I can emulate midi using soundfonts and mt32/Cm32. Saw this and thought true emulation would be nice.

This video explains how to get Nuked-SC55 running in DOSBox-pure today as an external MIDI device: https://youtu.be/UaFEmPDcMDk?si=aa8OLjwRrtWa0bft&t=1073

Glancing through the video (wheres my german-english dictionary?) it appears that you need to run dosbox at least through winXP. Well I'm running it on ha ha iPhone. I might need to dig around for a solution.

Oh, I know this one, kinda. I think you can send it over network. Using Falcosoft midi pale, I addition to all other software. So you still need to be by a computer....... Or could you crate a "midi-server"?

Now to get dosbox on iPhone to send that midi data over network.

Allanon41 commented 5 months ago

I'm using RetroArch Dosbox-Pure which has a "frontend midi" option, "frontend" being RetroArch. I think I can use loopMIDI for this. Going to try.

Allanon41 commented 5 months ago

No my logic here is wrong. I have to set up RetroArch frontend midi somehow.

Little offtopic side-node: Enable subtitles in the YouTube player, go to the settings, select subtitle, select auto-translate.

works if you change the midi output in dosbox.conf just point at the midi port (14:0) or which ever is being created by sc-55
