PLG150-An & PLG150-Dx
add-on cards came inside AN200, DX200 Groove Boxes.
there were many other cards, -PC "Latin Percussion", -Ap Acoustic Grand Piano, -SG "Vocal Synth", etc...
there is PLG100-Dx and PLG150-Dx, early model, and later model.
PLG cards have a PC Yamaha Software Editor Librarian,
Stand Alone for XP, Vista, W7, W8, requires custom MIDI drivers.
or a plugin for XGWorks "Yamaha DAW / Music Midi Editor"
old software.
plugins have 2 versions of the same,
one version has the same presets as the stand alone editor librarian,
other versions of the plugins, have totally different presets for -An.
havent tested -Dx.
Kenton Uk made a 4x card box player called Plugstation,
very complex inside... Mostly motorola stuff.
but interface its very basic...
simple 8-Digitl LED display, rotary + push button.
in my opinion a bad interface for such complex HW synth.
Plugistation had XYZ expansion add-on options,
X = DA option + ADAT out
default sample rate is 44.1KHz x512, Fixed
but...
14-Dip XO could be replaced with 48KHz x512, and works.
but presets require manual Tuning.
DA card has Alesis Wavefront DA converters,
TL062 op-amps, Solid capacitors for DC coupling...
replacing TL062 with 072 or 4580 + proper ultra low inductance capacitors "for Audio",
DA sounds much better vs. ADAT clean out.
common failure point was the fuse holder, gets lose and makes bad contact.
Y/Z were for connecting directly to SW1000XG PCI card, and maybe DSP Factory PCI cards "02R mixer".
The -An card has very nice algorithms, based on Prophet-5
the only problem was that the "SuperSaw", Yamaha calls it MultiWave or MutiSaw,
its a Look-Up-Table, Not an analog emulation algorithm like the rest of the synth engine.
LUT its a sample of the same Virtual Analog Engine,
but LUT does Not have enough sample points to sound exactly the same,
Waveform feels lower quality when comparing to same wave generated by the synth engine,
when used as part of the synth, as an oscillator waveform does Not feel too strange.
probably, DSP didnt had enough power to make a MultiSaw,
requires almost a complete synth engine to generate the MultiSaw Waveform to be used just as an Oscillator waveform.
they chose the "easy" way out..
