Fail at start with "cannot look up address!" #8

Open sgourichon opened 10 years ago

sgourichon commented 10 years ago

Symptom:

./apply-equalizer.py

load dbus-module into PA
27
cannot look up address!
cannot look up address!
cannot look up address!
cannot look up address!
cannot look up address!
cannot look up address!

Goes on forever, about one line per second. Ctrl-C does not kill process. Manual kill with PID quits. Running process again -> same failure. pulseaudio -k then running again -> works

./apply-equalizer.py

load dbus-module into PA

Weird. I am not able to reproduce this. Ideas?

sgourichon commented 9 years ago

It still appears from time to time (say, once a month). Ubuntu 14.04.

Hi All,

now I do have the same issue and it is not going away, everything worked fine on initial setup all sym. links were created and worked correctly 2 days ago i had a X crash on LMDE1 Cinnamon and then I just started receiving black screen with only mouse cursor with no sound so as I had such case before I knew that it was some config file corrupted on my profile so I deleted all config files which would be regenerated including the .config/pulse and .config/apply-equlizer folder and etc. Cinnamon is back but since than apply-equlizer doesn't work. Pulse audio recreated its files as well i did also re-activate pulse-equlizer and did apply settings and tick mark EQ Enabled and Keep Settings. Sound via Equalizer works but apply-equlizer doesn't.

logfile is similar starts with a single line for about 2-3 minutes and than fills it in with the error message: mint@mint:~$ sudo more /tmp/apply-equalizer_mint.log

23 module-dbus-protocol cannot look up address! cannot look up address! cannot look up address!

mint@mint:~$ sudo more /var/log/messages | grep -e pulse*

I also did kill -the the pulseaudio and as well apply-equlizer than start pulseaudio and than apply-equlizer . The symlinks didnt regenerate only the empty folder is there.

I hope you will be able to pinpoint what could be wrong.

Thanks in advance.

I also just did notice in the background of the X I do have another error message which is only there interestingly that /org/pulseaudio/core1 doesn't exist

nullEuro commented 8 years ago

Hmm, do you run apply-equalizer and pulseaudio as the same user? Also I think you should not use "Keep settings" because this will create a new virtual output device and breaks on port changes (should not be related to the error you get though).

sgourichon commented 8 years ago

Happens also on Ubuntu 16.04 . Same workaround pulseaudio -k works. apply-equalizer and pulseaudio aways run as the same user. Not using "keep settings".
