Required strings error #210

I have a required string ^2. However on inputting x^2 I get an error message claiming that it is not there.

Somewhat bemused. Changed the required string to x^2 and OK, this was accepted. Changed back to ^2 and accepted on running (although not previously). Went out of Numbas, came back in and not accepted on running as in first comment.
