Free variables in JME expressions #266

At present it appears that a free variable in a JME expression is constrained to a single letter. Even strings such as t1 are not accepted as free variables. See https://numbas.mathcentre.ac.uk/question/910/test-free-variable/

What exactly do you mean? Do you want multiple-letter variables to be in roman font? It doesn't look like $ab$ is a single variable at the moment, but it is.
