Update example code to use "ggplot" rather than "qplot". Write a vignette. Add a null generating mechanism for temporal data.

the vignette would need to give brief details of the protocols, refer to paper, and run examples on how to use.

just wondering if there's scope for redesigning the API (not necessarily for the hackathon), to follow a more pipe based work flow?
